Chicago’s Homeless
Steph and I were walking around Chicago today, and my attention was drawn to the homeless people on nearly every corner. The majority of them had little signs that said “No money, please help.” I couldn’t help but think that they’re actually better off than a good deal of the country, who have less than no money. Think about it: You’ve got ’successful’ people who are renting an apartment, carrying a $40,000 car loan, another $10,000 or so in credit card debt, and are basically living month to month on their paychecks. In other words, they have negative net worth. Then you’ve got the guys on the corners who have exactly $0 net worth, making them technically better off than the aforementioned successful people.
It’s a strange economy.

The nicest bum in town is the guy peddling Streetwise outside the Walgreens at Clark and Diversey. He’s always out there, rain or shine. If you’re a girl, he’ll call you ma’am and compliment your looks (not in a creepy way). And if you don’t want to buy his paper he’ll thank you for your time anyway.
The next time you’re in Chicago you should come up to Lakeview. We can hang out (and you can meet the nicest bum in town.)
