Sallie Mae is Useless

A couple of months ago, I got a letter from Sallie Mae saying that I needed to start repaying my loan.  To me, this was puzzling because I am still in school and not supposed to start paying it back until after I graduate.  I called them up and after an eternity of navigating their menus, got a real live call center drone who assured me that she had fixed the problem.

One month later, same letter.  Called again.  Explained situation.  “Robert” from India assured me that he had filed a report and that the system would take care of it.

Today.  New letter.  Late fees.  I am not happy.  Call center is closed on weekends, so I emailed them.  I’m going to call on Monday.  Something tells me that no matter what I do, I’m screwed.  This is very frustrating.

After you’re on drop status, it fucks up all of your student loan status, hence they want you to start repaying. You have to go to Schleman and Hovde and make sure the system knows you’re a student again.

That’s the thing - I’m a student right now, and have been since June. My other loan in their own system says “In school”. They know, but something isn’t clicking.

I did the same thing. You can be in school, have another loan, and still not have “student” status…you have to go clear it with the Purdue offices.
