Easy Printer Maintenance

Before I went off to college nearly four years ago, I bought myself I nice little color inkjet printer (HP PSC 1315). I got a lot of use out of it, but eventually it ran out of ink and I started using it as a bookend. After over a year of sitting, I finally needed it again, so I dusted it off, bought some paper and new ink (which put a massive hole in my wallet), and set it up. Got the printer heads aligned, printed a test page, and then, nothing. The paper wouldn’t feed.

I quickly determined that the reason it wasn’t feeding was because the little rubber roller on the inside wasn’t producing enough friction to grab the paper. Half an hour later, my sluggish brain figured out that was because it was covered in dust. Blew it out with a can of air and everything was good.

So, in conclusion, if you’re ever tempted to start beating your 4 year old printer with a hammer that is conveniently located next to your bed, don’t.
