Tax Magic

Spending another hour on your taxes can go a long way.  I was all finished with my state and federal taxes using the EZ forms, and Dad suggested that I try using the standard forms to maximize my refund.  I like money, and I have a lot of free time on my hands, so I figureed ‘why not?’.  Well, I’m glad I did.

Rebate using EZ form: ~$250

Rebate using standard form: ~$700

Claiming the federal college tuition credit goes a long way.  I ended up getting a full return on my Federal taxes, and twice as much as I had previously on my state taxes.  Hooray for deductions.

Back in high school, my government teacher told us all that everybody should use the EZ forms, and that claiming deductions and credits was the same as stealing from the government.  I always thought that man was an idiot, but now I’m sure of it.
