Thanksgiving Summary
My first Thanksgiving away from home went pretty well. When Steph and I left for Chicago Wednesday morning, it was a balmy 62 degrees outside and we made it to the train station with plenty of time to spare. Then we found out that the train would be 3 hours late. Even though the Amtrak phone center said it was on time. Meh. We went over to a coffee shop and had breakfast, and then went back over to the train station about an hour later. It’s a good thing we only spent an hour at the coffee shop, because the train showed up about 10 minutes after we got back. We got on, found out the train was overbooked, and spent the next three hours sitting in the dining car (which ironically does not serve food).

You know, if the government actually wanted to turn a profit from the financial black hole that is Amtrak, they’d take steps to make it more reliable and desirable. The only reason I take the train is to avoid the traffic around Chicago.

After we reached Chicago we hopped on the Metra and made our way to Steph’s house. When we go there, Steph baked a pie, I researched affiliate marketing, and we eventually got in the car and drove to Iowa. Somewhere along the road, it started snowing. We got there late in the evening, played some guitar hero, admired Sam and Nathan’s apartment, and went to bed.
Thursday, everybody got up early to watch the parade. Everybody except me, I slept in until 11ish. I’ve never really liked the parade. The rest of the day was spent waiting for the turkey to finish cooking, trying to figure out what was wrong with Sam’s desktop, and more Guitar Hero. At one point a friend of theirs came over, and after a little conversation, I found that he too lieks mudkipz. People like us aren’t supposed to meet in real life.
Dinner was had, tryptophan was ingested, and Jeff Dunham was watched. More Guitar Hero and then food coma took over. We got up early the next morning to drive back to Chicago where I hopped on a train that was remarkably on time. Got home, caught up on Internets, went to bed. Not a bad Thanksgiving.
As a side note, Sam and Nathan invited me and Steph out for a weekend to go to their goth club. I’ve never been to a goth club, and I look good in black, so we’re looking for a good time to go next year. I’ll need to go out and get a trench coat and some boots.
