How to explain God to a scientist

Debates with John, part one.
(Note. John and I debating something is much like striking an immovable object with an unstoppable force)

-Put 3 beings in a room: A human, a bacteria, and God
-The bacteria is aware of its surroundings as much as it is able, however it is incapable of perceiving the human or God
-The human is aware of its surroundings as much as it is able, however it is incapable of perceiving God
-God is at the top, capable of perceiving all

The point that I was trying to make is that the Human mind is to God as the bacteria is to the Human. I explained that it is arrogant to assume that the Human is the ultimate life form in the universe and that we are incapable of understanding the universe as a whole. To a higher life form such as God, we are no more complex than mold or insects, much like bacteria is to us.

John’s stance was that since we are incapable of proving that we are incapable of understanding the universe, we should keep refining our current models and systems until we know everything.

This quickly degenerated into which world view leads to a happier life, but then I had to leave for work.
